The Recreation, Parks, and Tourism (RPT) Department at SF State has been in existence since 1946 with a focus on educating students to engineer experiences that engage, empower, and educate.  The program’s most important resources for course content and overall curriculum are the diversity and vitality of Bay Area and the experiences of professionals within the RPT field. 

Courses in the curriculum include, but are not limited to, the following

  1. Foundations
  2. Leadership
  3. Programming
  4. Management
  5. Parks and outdoor recreation
  6. Non-profit and community recreation
  7. Wellness and therapeutic recreation
  8. Travel, tourism, and events

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree or higher in RPT or related field
  2. Three years of professional experience in RPT
  3. Public speaking experience

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Doctorate-level training in RPT or related field
  2. Five or more years of professional experience in RPT
  3. Teaching experience in higher education

Professional Development Activities

San Francisco State University supports faculty with professional development opportunities such as ongoing training through the Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CEETL). The CEETL courses provide a systematic way to assure ongoing course quality and opportunities for new skill development in teaching courses in any learning mode, from in-person to online courses.

Note: This is a continuous recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, assignments on an as-needed basis, beginning Fall 2023 & Spring 2024. You will be contacted should the program be interested in scheduling an interview. Select candidates may also be invited to give a presentation.

Salary

Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $4,530 – $6,056 per month
Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,405 – $11,994 per month 
Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,190 – $13,172 per month
Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $7,794 – $13,797 per month

Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
